About Me

I am MeKenzie Martin, a deaf artist from Zeeland, Netherlands. I loved making art as a child using watercolors, pencils, and crayons. Later I worked in other media, including digital art for book covers, cards, and film concepts. For several years I have focused on oil painting.

I explore questions like “What can we experience?” and “What possibilities do we have?” by using bold colors, light and shadow, and abstract shapes. I link colors and tones to rhythms like music and see them as harmonies that mirror nature’s changes: dusk fading, autumn’s gold turning gray toward winter. I try to capture these fleeting moments and hint at what’s coming.

I’m inspired by Rembrandt’s use of light and color but paint in a looser, more impressionistic way. I don’t copy the past; I learn from it. As Rembrandt advised, I follow one master, nature, guided by the quiet rhythms around me, like tides and wind through fields.
