Reflection. A specular material we all take for granted. It mirrors and reveals what's in front of you, both literally and metaphorically. The philosophical stance of reflection is what inspired me to paint this piece. While this painting has a simple scene, it asks for silence to observe and introspect. Thus, nature is a wonderful teacher.

Seen from nearly anywhere, this water tower is one of Axel’s most recognizable landmarks. This painting captures nature waking up, dissolving a blanket of fog and the frost on the overgrown grasses with a touch of warm sun. Behind the rows of multicolored trees and the quiet canal, the water tower stands watch over the small city.

As artist, I always feel incredibly humbled by time and wanted to paint this iconic building to represent how I feel. In this piece, city mill (stadmill in Dutch) flour mill from 1750 is depicted still standing between modern home. It is a symbol of how through time, that some things remained unchanged, some reconstructed, and some changed completely.

This painting was inspired a sunset at Long Beach Island, New Jersey. A fleeting moment so alive with color it called me to paint it.

What drew me in was the subtlety within the scenery, how the soft hue shifts and the light seemed to orchestrate the whole sky. I wanted to see whether the brushwork could not only describe it, but make it dance.
